Today is the last day to register to vote for California

Here are some handy tips to make sure my state does NOT go red. You might think Obama has California wrapped up, but this is way too important to me - I'm taking no chances at all.

STEP 1: Go to this website: http://www.sos.ca.gov/nvrc/fedform/

STEP 2: Select your county from the drop-down menu (your correct form should download immediately).

STEP 3: Fill out your form in Acrobat Reader or print it and fill it out by hand.

STEP 4: Print the form and envelope (if you haven't already) AND SIGN and DATE IT!

STEP 5: Fold the form into the printed envelope, tape it up with the address showing, and place a stamp on it.

STEP 6: Drop it in your nearest mailbox. Make sure the mail hasn't been picked up for that location yet. You are in the clear as long as your letter gets postmarked by the 20th. If you want to be sure, I suggest just dropping it off at your nearest post office (http://usps.whitepages.com/post_office).

And that's it! You may now pick up your shit and resume whatever the hell you were doing before this, just don't forget to vote on the 4th!

If you're not sure if you are registered to vote at your current address, call this number now: 1 (800) 815-2666. Press 2 "for inquiry about registration status." The very nice, but likely very stressed operator will assist you, so please be nice, I'm guessing they're getting blitzed with calls.

UPDATE 1: For Los Angeles residents you can also go here to find out if you're registered: https://lavote.net/SECURED/VOTER_REG/

UPDATE 2: There are four other states that I know of where it's not too late to register: Kansas, South Dakota (have till the 20th), Maine, and Connecticut (have till the 21st). , with 2 comments »
